Beyond Four Walls: Furnishing New Paths to Stability with Commons on 16th

Commons on 16th: 65 Rooms, 65 New Beginnings

The Commons on 16th is a new bridge-housing initiative in Cedar Rapids providing safe, stable housing and wraparound services for people experiencing chronic homelessness.

CFR is helping transform 65 dorm-style rooms into functional living spaces. Furniture and household items such as dressers, nightstands, comfortable seating, tables and chairs, lamps, wall art, coffee makers, and dorm-size refrigerators help turn an otherwise empty room into a place where someone can begin rebuilding their life.

Central Furniture Rescue is also helping equip shared spaces, including the communal kitchen, because creating stability extends beyond an individual’s room.

Different housing. Different journeys. The same human need to feel at home. Central Furniture Rescue is proud to work alongside housing providers and community partners in Eastern Iowa to make sure that when someone receives the key to a new space, they also have the essentials they need to live there with dignity.
