Helping People & the Environment
Central Furniture Rescue efforts prevent tens of thousands of pounds of furniture from going to the local landfill every year. This furniture goes back into homes in our community where it gets a second chance at life. Rest easy knowing that a family in need is using your furniture.
About Us
About Us
Central Furniture Rescue is a nonprofit that helps turn a new place to live into a home. We do that by collecting furniture and household items from the community. Then we provide them to referred clients who are transitioning from homelessness into a new place to live.
Our Team
Central Furniture Rescue is a nonprofit organization with no paid staff. We are a 100% volunteer organization.
A board of directors sets our policies and oversees our work.
We partner with other nonprofit organizations in the Cedar Rapids area, and we recruit volunteers to help in all aspects of our work as a charitable organization.
Our History
Central Furniture Rescue began as a ministry of the Central Church of Christ. For many years, the church held clothing and miscellaneous item giveaways.
In 2018, we began working with area shelters to find a better way to distribute furniture and household goods to those in need.
In July 2019, Central Furniture Rescue became a separate nonprofit organization in Cedar Rapids.
Today we have over thirty partners who refer clients who need basic furniture and household items.
Our Mission
We believe that all people deserve to be treated with love, dignity, and kindness.
Central Furniture Rescue provides furniture and household items at no cost to individuals and families who are transitioning out of homelessness and into their own places to live.
